This was a great read... That illustration by Peter Hanan make me laugh out loud - brilliant! : )))) It´s been a long time since I last painted, more into photography right now, but there are some things you just can´t capture through a lens - those pencils and brushes (and their modern versions) still have a role to play.
Gorgeous Gavin into German era then? When I started art-school (many moons ago!), the Secession-era in Vienna was a particular favourite of mine. Check out Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt. And don´t be fooled by the decorative side of Klimt, there´s a lot more to it than that. His paintings are life-size or bigger, vibrating and very sensual. "The kiss", obviously, "Danäe" another favourite of mine (wish I had hair like that! : )). Oskar Kokoschka also really good - if a bit scary - maybe something for Virgin Prune-fans! : )

Eurovision Song Contest.......uhmmmmmmmm......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! : ))))) They´re not worthy! Johnny Logan was great with his two songs way back when, and I can willingly admit to rooting for ABBA back in -74 (*get´s thrown out of Gavin Friday´s site* - but hey, I´m Swedish! And I was seven....: )) Wasn´t there a German song on called "Djingis Kahn"?
