Renaud Pion

Renaud Gabriel Pion is a classically trained instrumentalist (woodwinds and electronics), improviser & composer. He has recorded with Dead Can Dance, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello & Steve Nieve, Penta Leslee Swanson, Katell Keineg, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cathal Coughlan, Bomb The Bass and was a collaborator of the French producer Hector Zazou.

He studied clarinet with Norbert Bourdon, saxophone with Guy Bordier and English horn with Alexandra Knoll. He also plays the flute and electric instruments. As a composer he is inspired by jazz and 20th century music, and loves music from the Middle East and experimentation.

His solo album “Paradise Alley – Orchestre & Improvisations” was released in 2008.

Renaud played in Gavin Friday’s band in the 90’s and worked on “Shag Tobacco”, “Peter & the Wolf” and “Ich Liebe Dich” as well as the scores for “In America” (Jim Sheridan, 2003), “The Boxer” (Jim Sheridan, 1998), “Angel Baby” (Michael Rymer, 1996) and “In the Name of the Father” (Jim Sheridan, 1994).
