RTE reports:
Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan starts filming scenes from ‘Breakfast on Pluto’ in Northern Ireland today.
The film began shooting last month in Callan, County Kilkenny and Jordan will now work in Glenavy and Belfast for the next three weeks.
‘Breakfast on Pluto’, which has been adapted from Patrick McCabe’s novel, stars up-and-coming Irish actor Cillian Murphy as Patrick Braden, a man who leaves Ireland to become a transvestite cabaret singer in 1970s London.
The film also stars Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea and Gavin Friday.
Gavin, in his role as a showband singer in the film ‘Breakfast on Pluto’, will be in the studio sometime next week to record some cover versions of 70s classics especially for the film.
You may have picked up some rumours already and we can now confirm that Gavin will indeed play a role in Neil Jordan’s new film ‘Breakfast on Pluto’.
The film is written by Neil Jordan and Pat McCabe after McCabe’s 1999 novel.
The Breakfast on Pluto cast consists of Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea and Gavin Friday.
Irish author Pat McCabe’s new novel ‘Breakfast on Pluto’ is dedicated to Gavin and his wife – “do Fionán agus R.” The book draws heavily upon the vibe set by the album Shag Tobacco, and the songs Mr Pussy and Dolls. Director Neil Jordan has already bought the rights to the book for a film.
Gavin and Maurice have been writing songs for Marianne Faithful and continue to work on a new studio album.
