‘In America’ by Irish director Jim Sheridan has won the Grand Price for Best Film at the 30th International Filmfestival Flanders-Ghent, Belgium. Producer Arthur Lappin accepted the EUR25,000 award. (Yahoo report)
The release date for Jim Sheridan’s In America has been put back till November 26. You can watch a trailer including Gavin and Maurice’s music on Fox Searchlight’s site. The song for the film, written by Friday, Seezer and Bono and sung by Andrea Corr has been recorded. Gavin and Maurice will be working with Sheridan within the next few weeks to add the song to the film.
The Fox Searchlight website states a May 14, 2003 USA release for Jim Sheridan’s film “In America”: “Academy Award®-winning Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In The Name of The Father) directs the semi-autobiographical EAST OF HARLEM (working title). With their two young daughters in tow, Johnny and Sarah emigrate from Ireland to New York City in pursuit of a dream. The family uses ingenuity and sheer strength of will to make the most of their new life. Ultimately it is their kindness to a stranger and that stranger’s response in return that builds their new home.”
Jim Sheridan’s new film (score by Friday/Seezer) was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival with a new title: “In America”. Consolation Champs reviews the film.
The Kirsten Sheridan film Disco Pigs (2001) for which Gavin and Maurice did the score is out on DVD this month. You can pre-order it from BlackStar. Gavin has a little cameo in this film too. No soundtrack album was released for this film, so this DVD is the currently the only way to hear the score.
Gavin and Maurice have recorded music for the film Disco Pigs, directed by Kirsten Sheridan. Gavin also has a cameo in the film. You can spot him MC-ing in the karaoke scene.
Gavin alongside other Irish prominents such as Guggi, Gerry Ryan, Dave Fanning and Simon Carmody appears in a new documentary: Aidan Walsh: Master of the Universe, directed by Shimmy Marcus.
The movie ‘The Boxer’ for which Gavin and Maurice have written the score will open in the USA for December 31 at the Cineplex Odeon Beekman in New York, the General Cinema AVCO Westwood in Los Angeles and Cineplex Odeon Varsity in Toronto. Opens nationwide (in USA) in January.
Gavin Friday, Maurice Seezer and drummer / programmer Andrew Philpot are currently working on the soundtrack for Jim Sheridan’s upcoming film ‘The Boxer’, starring Daniel Day Lewis and Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves). The film is set in the present time, deals with boxing, a love triangle and the peace talks in Northern Ireland. The soundtrack is expected to be released some time between January and March 1998.
